An extremely old attire of the Indian ladies, the Sari has got all its rightful recognition through out the world.The charm and grace it brings on one’s personality is the reason behind it.A dressing culture developed and initiated between 2nd and 3rd Century BC during the Indus valley civilization. Since then, there has been a lot of draping styles that has made this attire all the more alluring and stylish.
In Indian, there are more than 10 different ways to wear a sari.Normally, it’s about 5 meters long however saris like Maharashtra’s Nauvari sari is 9 yard long. The draping style of every state is different than the other.The Pallu which is one end of the sari, mostly with some heavy pattern or design or work on it, is left loose over the left shoulder.This is the Nivi style originally from Andra Pradesh but commonly used through out the country.However, with the Gujarati style, this pallu is taken on front through the right shoulder.
Similarly, the variation may be totally different with the way the sari is worn.Bengali style gives a very different front look.While the Maharashtra’s Nauvari sari looks different below the waist. Then, there is the half sari, which is less than half the size of the normal sari and is mostly worn by young girls in South India.
There are countless Sari materials found in India with varying prices. For daily wear cotton, chiffon or polyester saris are used.When there is traditional celebration like a wedding, engagement or religious function more expensive and heavy saris like Benarasi, Kanjeevaram, Fancy saris are seen.
